MI junior cricket: Swami Vivekanand thrash Rizvi to enter final

Mumbai, March 5 (IANS): Swami Vivekanand International School, Borivali maintained their newfound dominance in inter-school cricket with a resounding victory over their arch-rivals Rizvi Springfield High School, Bandra on Thursday.

Swami Vivekanand won the semi-final by nine wickets to make a grand entry into the Mumbai leg of Boys' U-16 final of the Mumbai Indians Junior cricket tournament. They will now face another Bandra based school IES New English for the title clash.

The team from Borivali had been playing dominating cricket throughout the MI Junior tournament which began on February 3 and they showed their strength in style by outplaying inter-school giants Rizvi in the semis.

Malhar Mane struck an unbeaten 79 to help Swami Vivekanand chase down the target of 179 with ease. He was well supported by his batting partner Meet Mayekar who remained not out on 45.

Swami Vivekanand bowlers first did an exemplary job to restrict the much-fancied Rizvi batting line-up to 178 all-out in 40 overs. Their bowlers bowled disciplined lines and the fielders supported their bowlers well with good ground fielding and catching to keep the pressure on the Rizvi batsmen and reap benefits from it.

Chasing a tricky target in a pressure game against an experienced team, Swami Vivekanand batsmen led by Mane rose to the occasion to make short work of the chase. He along with Mayekar took the responsibility to steer his team home in 34.2 overs.
