Moodbidri, Nov 10: ‘Tech MVSIT–2K9’, a one-day workshop on recent advances in engineering, was held at Dr M V Shetty Institute of Technology (MVSIT), Vidyanagar, Thodar, here on Tuesday November 10.
M L Sidana, consultant, ITA, National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore, inaugurated the event.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Indians need to be trained to match global standards. We should be equipped with professional conduct and expertise.  About 90 percent of college graduates and 75 percent of engineering graduates are rejected by major employers such as Nasscom because they are not good enough to be trained.  Sixty-four percent of employers including FICCI are not satisfied with the skills of engineering graduates”.

Furthermore, Sidana said, “I hope you will be able to conduct more programmes involving eminent scholars in workshops and seminars so that when these students reach the final stages of their course, they will have enough experience to know how to involve them in related project work.  It will also give an opportunity for the faculty to demonstrate their skills in training these youngsters and to give a major boost to their own goals”.

M V Shetty Trust (MVST) secretary Dr Ramgopal Shetty presided over the programme.

MVSIT principal Dr Sandeep J Nayak delivered the keynote address.

Prizes to the winners of ‘Callisto–09’ for installation and ‘Sambram–09’ for quiz were presented on the same occasion.

MVST trustees Dr Ranjith Shetty and Divyanjali Shetty, administrator Jayaram Hegde, and Dr Susheel of NIIT, were also present.

Engineering students and lecturers from various engineering colleges of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttar Karnataka attended the workshop.

Prof Prakash Karat welcomed the gathering.  Guruprasad introduced the guests and MVSIT head of department of chemistry Dr Raghavan Nambiar proposed the vote of thanks.
