Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 10: Disturbed over the increased activities of the naxals in the villages located at the foot of the Western Ghats, the police department has stepped up its offensive against the naxals. For this operation, personnel of Karnataka State Reserve Police, District Armed Reserve Police and Anti-naxal Force have been put together.

About a thousand policemen have now cordened off the forests where the naxals are believed to be holed up. The combing operation is being supervised by the superintendents of police of four districts, under the directions of inspector general of police (western range), Gopal Hosur. It is learnt that the combing will continue even during the nights, to keep up pressure on the naxals.

Villages in and around Hebri have seen intensified combing activity of late. Additional staff has been deputed to the health centres in these areas on a temporary basis, to ensure that medical care and services are available all through the day and night, during the period the combing is in progress.
