Karkala: Pregnant head constable dies due to excessive bleeding after delivery

Karkala, Mar 6: In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman died from excessive bleeding at a private hospital in Manipal on Thursday, March 5.

Shyamala (37) is the woman deceased. She was serving as the head constable here at town police station.

She was admitted to Karkala Rotary Hospital on March 3 where she delivered her child. On account of excessive bleeding, she was rushed to Manipal to a private hospital where she died on Thursday after not responding to treatment.

She is survived by husband, Giridhar Pai, a police personnel at Karkala town police station.

    In modern day medical practice no mother should actually die of bleeding . Lot of questions need to be answered. Was the bleeding recoganised in time. Did the Hospital had facilities to manage bleeding? Was there good Doctors at the time of delivery? Was the patient transported in time? Was she treated at expert hands at referal hospital? We need to ponder these question well Only then we shall know answrs

    Three causes of moter dying are delay in recoginition delay in transport and delay in treating These questions need to be answered

    Why did she die? Was the woman reieve adequate care in labour? Was there any negligence on part of Doctors there? Was the peripheral hospital equipped to provide care? Was senior Doctors present at the time of delivery? These questions need to be pondered.

    Bleeding after child birth is a rare but known phenomenon . Many people blame doctors for it.

    All that the doctor can try is blood clotting injection and continuous blood transfusion. Depends on how much blood is in stock and how fast the clotting medicine works. Dont blame the doctors if they have taken all possible steps
