Chamarajanagar, Mar 6: Even as the school staff have been busy creating awareness among the children about the need to maintain hygiene and take other preventive steps against spread of coronavirus infection, some children who tried to misuse the proposal to grant holidays to children suffering from coronavirus symptoms to their advantage, acted as if they were suffering from such symptoms.

The teachers of Gorasane government higher primary school falling within Mahadeshwara Hills in the district were creating awareness among the students about the said deadly virus. Two of the students told the teacher that they were suffering from cough, fever and vomiting. These two were taken to the primary health centre at Mahadeshwara Hills and brought back to school after treatment, when over 20 other students claimed that they were suffering from similar symptoms. Some of them began to throw up.

These students too were taken to hospital. During the check up, the doctors found that they were not suffering from cough and fever symptoms. Still, as a precautionary measure, blood samples of the students were collected, and they were dropped off at school after providing preliminary treatment. The doctors said that the blood tests too did not exhibit any problems.

As the information reached him, Hanur block education officer visited the spot and conducted verification. He also consumed food prepared at the school in the afternoon under hot meals programme and found that there was no problem. The teachers then realized that this was a drama acted out in order to avail holiday.

Hanur block education officer T R Swamy, said that the students, who wanted to get holidays, had behaved in this fashion when they were being told about the coronavirus. He said that it turned out to be like mass hysteria. He confirmed that all the children are healthy, and there are no health issues.
