Mangaluru, Mar 9: St Agnes College (Autonomous), Departments of Economics and Political Science will be organising an ICSSR sponsored two-day National Conference entitled ‘Agrarian distress and environmental issues and policies’ on March 10-11 at St Agnes conference hall. The inaugural program will begin at 9.30 am on March 10. The valedictory will be held on March 11 at 3.30 pm.
Dr H C Sharatchandra former chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board will be the inaugurator of the conference. Prof Venkatachalam, MIDS, Chennai will deliver the keynote address. The program will be presided over by Sr Dr M Jeswina AC principal, St Agnes College, Mangaluru. There will be four technical sessions, paper presentations as well as a panel discussion.
Dr Ravindra Kumar B chairman, Department of Studies and Research in Economics, Tumkur University, Tumkur, Karnataka, Dr Rajesh Mohan, regional director IGNOU, Vadakara, Kerala, Dr Duraisamy associate professor Department of Economics, Madras Christian College, Chennai and Varanashi Krishnamoorthy, VDRF, Adynadka are the resource persons. The panellists for the panel discussion themed Sustainable Agriculture and Environment are Sharon D’Souza, Environment and social officer SCPMIP, Govt of Karnataka, Vidya Nayak environmental activist, Guruvayanakere, Vasantha Kaje agriculturalist, Uppinangady. Dr Vignesh Varmudi principal, Nalanda College of Arts and Science, Perla, Kerala will be the moderator for the panel discussion.
The students, teachers and scholars from various parts of India will be taking part in the two-day conference.
