Mangalore: SAC Team Takes Home Benjamin D’Souza Memorial Football Trophy

Mangalore, Nov 15: The valedictory function and the final match of Benjamin D’Souza Memorial Invitation League football tournament, organized by Dakshina Kannada Football Association (DKFA), were held on Saturday November 14.
The 15-day day tournament in memory of the sports patron and physical director of St Aloysius College saw the participation of eight teams from various colleges in and around the city.
St Aloysius College team won the final 1-0 against the team from Tippu Sultan College on the football ground at Nehru Maidan.
In the tournament, St Aloysius College scored 9 points and took home the championship. The Tippu Sultan College team which scored 4 points, were runners-up.
St Philomina College, Puttur, with 3 points, had to be content with third place. Other participants were teams from NITK Surathkal, Govindadas College, Badriya College, Shri Devi College, and Rosario.
The teams were selected from the list of quarter finalists for the Independence Cup organized by DKFA in August.
Arthur D’Souza, former weightlifter, Naveen Shetty, secretary, District Basketball Association, and Dr Jerald Santhosh D’Souza, son of Benjamin D Souza and physical director of Mangalore University, were the chief guests who distributed the trophies to winners.
D M Aslam, president of DKFA, secretay Mohammad Husain Bolar, office-bearers Vijaya Suvarna, Anil P V, and Umesh Ucchila were also present.
