Mangaluru: St Agnes College conducts ICSSR sponsored 2-day national conference

Mangaluru, Mar 13: St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, the Departments of Economics and Political Science conducted ICSSR sponsored two-day national conference on 'Agrarian Distress  and Environmental Issues and Policies' on March 10 and 11. The conference was inaugurated by Dr H C Sharatchandra former chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Karnataka which was followed by the keynote address by Prof Venkatachalan RBI chair, Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai. Sr Dr Jeswina AC principal, St Agnes College presided over the program, administrator Sr Carmel Rita and the convener Sr Dr M Venissa AC, Prof Chandramohan Marathe organizing secretary were present.

Gayatri BK compered the inauguration. While addressing the gathering regarding the problems related to agrarian distress Dr HC Sharatchanda said, "Even today agriculture is the major source of revenue but we have seen a steady decline in this sector due to inadequate distribution of resources." He concluded by saying, "As consumers, we need to stay connected and care for our farmers."

Ashwath Hegde founder and managing director, ENVY Green Bio Tech Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru was the chief guest for the valedictory programme held on March 11. Sonal D'Souza assistant professor of economics hosted the event.
