Udupi, Mar 14: “Increase in criminal cases in the court is not conducive for the growth of healthy society,” opined Supreme Court judge Justice Abdul Nazeer. He was speaking after inaugurating a special POCSO court at Udupi district court premises on Saturday, March 14.
POCSO court is good for society but it is bad in another way. “Such incidents should not happen in the society. This special court is unavoidable as it is here to root out the ills. Increase in cases is not good for the health of the society. Civil cases are more in the state than criminal cases. Criminal cases should decrease. The numbers of criminal cases are increasing in north India,” he said.
District chief session judge justice C M Joshi said that all the lawyers should cooperate for speedy disposal of cases.
State advocate’s council member Bhojegowda said that the bar association in the district has donated Rs two lac for the library and taluk bar association has donated Rs one lac. He assured all the cooperation in the future.
High court judge Ashok G Nijagannavar chaired the programme. District Pocso court judge Vanamala Anandrao was present. Bar association president Diwaker M Shetty welcomed. Bar association chief secretary Ronald Praveen Kumar rendered vote of thanks. Advocate Mary Shresta compered the programme.
Justice Abdul Nazeer spoke in Kannada and Tulu which was appreciated by the audience. He spoke in pure Kannada and gave examples in Tulu showing his love of Kannada and Tulu. The audience clapped their hands and showed their appreciation. Sessions judge C M Joshi, State advocate’s council member Bhojegowda and High court judge Ashok G Nijagannavar were present.
Later, Justice Abdul Nazeer set in motion state level volleyball tournament for men and throw ball tournament for women at the district court premises. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Advocates should inculcate sportspersons’ spirit in their profession and should be successful in their work. They should provide legal advice for the formation of good society.”
District chief sessions judge C M Joshi also addressed the gathering. Member of Vidhan Parishad Bhojegowda, high court judge Ashok G Nijagannavar, district POCSO court judge Vanamala Anandrao, bar association president Diwakar M Shetty, bar association chief secretary Ronald Praveen Kumar and advocate Mattar Rathnaker Hegde were present.
