Mangalore: Assault on Students - Yedapadav College Suspends Eight Students

Mangalore, Nov 18: Relating to the incident in which five students of Swami Vevekananda PU College, Yedapadav, were assaulted after forcing them to get down from a bus, a crowd of miscreants threw stones at a private bus going to Karkala from the city, on Monday November 17 evening. On Tuesday, eight students of the said college were temporary suspended on charges of indiscipline.
The driver of the bus, who sustained minor injuries in the stone pelting, was provided first aid at Gurpur. the front wind shield of the bus was shattered in the incident. Commandos, personnel of KSRP, DAR and police personnel of the city rural police station, are looking after law and order situation in Vamanjoor.

The eight students reportedly failed to attend the classes on Tuesday afternoon. The college management took a decision to suspend them, as they stood on the steps of the college, instead of being in their classes. These students were standing outside, in protest against the Sunday incident. In a meeting of students held on Tuesday in the college premises, the management told the students in no uncertain terms, that acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated and that all the students are expected to concentrate on their studies. The students were informed that the college will not allow caste or religious affiliation to gain entry into studies, and that the incident of Sunday had occurred outside the college premises, and as such, the students were told not to allow it to spill over to the college.
The suspended students not only refused to attend the classes, but also tried to enter the room in which the management was holding a meeting. They have been identified as Mohammed Naufal, Hatim, Imtiaz, Taufiq, Mohammed Farooq, Shihabuddin, Abdul Samir and Yahaya A P, studying in second PU. They have been asked to bring their parents to the college on November 23.
