‘Nirmal Taluk National Award’ for Beltangady, Puttur, Bantwal

Bantwal, Nov 19: In some good news for Dakshina Kannada district, taluk panchayat presidents of three taluks received the ‘Nirmal Taluk National Award’ from Pratibha Patil, President of India, in New Delhi on Wednesday November 18.
Most of the presidents of the gram panchayats of the three taluks were witness to this great event.
The taluk panchayats of Bantwal, Beltangady, and Puttur bagged the coveted award. Bantwal taluk panchayat president M Babu, Puttur taluk panchayat president Savitri Shivaram, and Beltangady taluk panchayat president Vijay Kumar, received the award in a function held at Science Centre, New Delhi.
Union rural development minister Dr C P Joshi, minister of state for rural development Agatha Sangma, and CCR officer Pradeep Kumar Jain were present on the occasion.
The award comprising of financial assistant of Rs 20 lac, a certificate and memento was presented to each winning taluk.
In all, 28 taluks were chosen for the award from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and West Bengal under the first phase of Nirmal Taluk National Award. Only these three taluks from Karnataka won the award.
Zilla panchayat deputy project officer Thakath Rao led the group of heads of gram panchayats along with taluk panchayat CEOs Vasant Raj Shetty, Shivaramayya, and Sadashiv Rao.
