Mumbai, Mar 17: As drink- driving issue is not under control traffic police have now started sending the records of past offences to the court where an accused is being tried.
In a similar case a metropolitan magistrate court in Kurla on Friday sentenced a person to 15 days of imprisonment and and also fined him Rs 2500.
The convict named Mohammad Shahjahaan Abdul Shaikh, an autorickshaw driver, was caught in the wee hours of March 6 and found to be drunk at Mankhurd T-Junction at a nakabandi. He was heavily under the influence of alcohol, much above the permissible limits.
He was charged under section 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Joint commissioner of police, traffic, Madhukar Pandey said "Since this person had been booked for a similar offence earlier, the court looked at his past record and sent him to jail in addition to telling him to pay a fine."
