Coronavirus: Catholic Church to suspend Masses from Saturday?

New Delhi, Mar 18: According to close sources of Daijiworld, the Catholic Church in India is expected to suspend public holy Masses and other liturgies from this Saturday, March 21 to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus which is fast spreading across the globe.

It is learnt that, Apostolic Nuncio Giambattista Diquattro in Delhi and Cardinal Oswald Gracias had discussion over coronavirus issues, and are expected to make official communication tomorrow regarding suspending Masses across India.

Meantime, in Mangaluru, Infant Jesus Shrine was the first to announce suspension of service with immediate effect, followed by Mudipu Shrine. St Lawrence Church Attur too has announced the suspension of Masses.

Meanwhile, Archbishop of Bombay Cardinal Oswald Gracias has exempted all faithful in the Archdiocese of Bombay the obligation to attend Sunday Mass till March 31in the wake of social distancing measures to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

Cardinal Gracias, in an official communication on Tuesday, also urged all those sick or having a weakened medical condition not to come to church for Mass. In addition, anyone with fever or cough or over the age of 60 and vulnerable to contracting coronavirus has been urged to stay away from Masses.

    Mass should be discontinued as hand rest for prayers are very vunreable to carry this virus. Our Faith and prayers at home should be increased and trust Lord. This is in the best intrest of public safety.

    What is this happening?
    At the time of distress when man needs God, God says, " No. don't come to my house"!!!!!!
    Please don't brand me anti-Christian... I am referring to all Gods, Hindu God, Christian God and Muslim God!!

    We call God as 'OMNIPRESENT'. We cannot confine God to a place because the universe belongs to Him. However, due to current situation and considering medical benefits from social gathering abstinence, we can promote a society which is both acceptable and pleasing to God.
    Keep trusting in His mercies and be saved.

    Not only suspension of masses but also placing holy water anywhere in church should be temporarily stopped. The holy water bowl will be a breeding ground for the corona virus , with hundreds of people dipping their fingers in it.
