Long-standing demand met - Chikkamagaluru gets new medical college

Daijiworld Media Network - Chikkamagaluru (SP)

Chikkamagaluru, Mar 20: Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, handed over the sanction letter pertaining to the new government medical college sanctioned for Chikkamagaluru district to Udupi - Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, at his office at New Delhi.

The district hospital that is currently functional at the district headquarters here would be upgraded and converted into medical college. This will affectively meet the requirement of a multi specialty hospital that the district is badly in need of.

People of the district had approached the MP a few months back to impress on her the need to have an advanced multi specialty hospital in the town. She took up this demand with the central and state governments and succeeded in getting medical college sanctioned for the district.

I agree with you. Mangalore has been neglected place by the state government and our MP & MLA's are not doing anything for this. If it is not possible at Mangalore at least they can do in South Kanara at Modabidri, Belthangady, Bantwal, or Kateel etc.

There may be a strong lobby of private medical colleges to avoid getting the medical college to Mangalore. Almost all the districts in the state got medical colleges except Udipi and South Kanara district. You can imagine the pressure private institutions are putting . If Ms. Shobha can get it for Chikmangalur why not Mangalore ?.

We had Mr. Gowda & Moily as chief minister. Mr. Poojary as state Congress president and nor Mr. Kateel as BJP state president. No use of recognizing these people as our own

Why we do not deserve a government medical college. All the people who are protesting on a drop of a pin are silent.

Getting a medical college with 150 seats to Mangalore we will have 150 doctors from a poor background. And Udipi and Mangalore the richest districts of Karnataka surely deserve this.

only one person whom most of the credit for major development of South Kanara should go is
Ullal Srinivasa Mallya( 11 November 1902 – 19 December 1965) .He was MP from 1946 -1965 and did lot of projects for Mangalore. He is the modern architect of Mangalore and the district.

Agreed, many don't know, he brought AIRport, NITK, NMPT to Mangalore. Thereafter only Malls and Real Estate Developments has happened , in terms of infrastructure subsequent representatives have failed. Not only did MPs / MLAs fail to bring anything new as US Mallya did, but they could not even retain Banks from Karavali such as Vijaya Bank, Corporation Bank & Syndicate Bank. These people are not representatives of people, but representatives of there own greed and hunger for power and money.
