Mangaluru: PM's 'Janata Curfew' concept draws support - Services to remain paralysed

Mangaluru, Mar 21: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's call to observe 'Janata Curfew' from 7 am to 9 pm on Sunday, March 22 has received spontaneous response from all the quarters. Petrol bunks, hotels, buses, auto rickshaw services, salons etc will remain shut on Sunday.

Salons and beauty parlours in Dakshina Kannada will remain closed from March 22 to 24 as an initiative to support measures being taken against spread of coronavirus. Dakshina Kannada Savita Samaja president Anand Bhandary, made this announcement through a release. District president of women beauticians, Udupi, said that all the beauty parlours in the district will remain closed till March 31.

KSRTC and private buses will be off the roads. President of Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association Dilraj Alva, said on Friday said that already several bus services have been stopped because of lack of passengers due to measures taken by the government, and that a decision to keep all the private buses off roads on Sunday has been taken.

Ullal Dargah Committee president Abdul Rashid Haji, said that from Saturday onward, namaz at the Ullal central Jumma Masjid will be held immediately after the Adhan. The weekly Dargah committee meeting and other programmes have been cancelled. Haji has requested people to support Prime Minister's call to stay inside their homes on Sunday.

President of Karnataka State Federation of Petroleum Dealers H S Manjappa, said that petrol bunks all over the state will remain closed from 6 am to 6 pm on Sunday.

Sources said that milk and other essential commodities will be available on Sunday. Fishing activity at Malpe and Mangaluru ports will remain suspended.

District BJP has requested people to respond to requests made by MLAs Veadvyas Kamath and K Raghupati Bhat, and totally support the Janata curfew. Dakshina Kannada district BJP president Sudarshan M, and Udupi district president Suresh Nayak, have requested people to postpone all programmes scheduled for Sunday and support the PM’s call.

I think Foolish people are those who are not realizing seriousness of this virus. Whole world is struggling in this virus .Tomorrow curfew is one example if this virus spread like this way its tragic for entire people same curfew further long period continue without doubt. Even so developed country USA don't have enough gloves,mask ,medical equipment, hospital facility people are really suffering over there. Some people are thinking only politicize they don't have human sense, humanity . They want everything has to take care of Modi ,package , money . People have common sense to take care of themselves . First we have to think how much good things doing myself to others. .

This Curfew should be stretched for few more days and made mandatory. If the citizens dont abide then Para military forces should be brought down in city to enforce the same. My guess is the latter will be implemented soon .

India is too big to be in a long lockdown. Let’s all do a lockdown completely tomorrow as per our PMs instruction n observe the effect by each city statewide n if the results are not satisfactory than our honorable PM will need to take stringent steps n force it down the throat by appointing para military force who will walk the streets n ensure no one steps out from the house. Frankly speaking our Politicians Bollywood diplomats etc are the ones who break the laws n set a bad example n put everyone’s life in danger.. One day if observed well then it is great. My request to the Prime Minister to assure the public regarding the steps taken by the government in fighting the Corona Virus in terms of:

1. Medical facilities which includes Testing, Treatment, Quarantine in each town and village in India. Just having facilities in main cities will not help as the extent of spread of virus is not known.

2. How the government is compensating people, companies for their losses due to extended shutdown of the business.

3. Spell out Government's stimulus package in response to COVID-19. This will help all stakeholders to be on the same page in fighting Corona.

Just having Janta Curfew and 5 p.m. chanting on Sunday can be seen as only an event without any concrete steps in this direction

There is a panic and people are really concerned about the spread of COVID 19 Virus. The best way as every one understands it staying away from point of contacts. End of the day, nobody wants to be in hospitals, with poor infrastructure to fight it. An epidemic of mammoth portion, is impossible to manage. Further, Modi led BJP has made a mess of everything, so there is least expected from them. Stay safe than sorry.

But, one thing is certain, there will not be BJP, RSS or VHP, moral gangs in the streets this time around, unlike before.

My advise to all those oppose Janata Curfew.
It is fine if you find solace in blaming the government for everything.

Follow the government guidelines, and stay safe.

If you still want to oppose, go in the crowds, don't wear masks, do not wash your hands, touch your eyes and mouth now and then. You can express the peak of your opposition to the government by hugging and spending time with a covid-19 positive person.

It is debatable whether a ONE day "Janata Curfew" will contain the rapid spread of the deadly Corona Virus - India being a very densely populated country with very poor levels of hygiene, and stupid beliefs in Gau Mutraa & other superstitions, should have taken the threat more seriously much earlier.

Unfortunately, our Governments have other priorities, and welfare of the common citizen is secondary, more a knee jerk reaction. That said let us for our own good stay safe and follow proper guidelines issued by the Medical fraternity. The PM's address to the Nation on Thursday was a joke, more like a moral science class for the illiterate.

The tamasahaa of making noise at 5 Pm on Sunday (a poor imitation of what the European:s are doing ) is best avoided, it serves no purpose, rather one spend time in prayer for all the health worker's, public servants who are working selflessly for us,ay the almighty take care of them, their and their families health and welfare.

Our gratitude to people who are ensuring our safety and well being in a proactive and hands on way, not by TV speeches and repeating what we all know already.

Incubation period of the virus is between 2-14 days. One day of curfew isn't enough! Lockdown should be imposed when the virus transmission is in stage 2 itself. Number of people tested are seriously less in India compared to most of the countries which means there could be undetected positive cases. The Government hasn't allocated any funds to fight this pandemic like other countries. For eg Canada is paying small businesses so that they don't face financial difficulties while in lock down.
