Mangaluru, Mar 22: The city came to a complete halt on Sunday March 22 in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to observe 'Janata Curfew' in a bid to control the spread of coronavirus pandemic that has sent the entire world into a state of quarantine.

All shops and business establishments have been closed. The city wore a deserted look as people chose to stay indoors.

Except for very few two-wheelers, no vehicles were seen plying on roads.

Places of worship such as churches have been shut. Sunday Mass in churches have been cancelled, with people being asked to pray indoors.

Transport has also come a halt. A few transport lorries were parked at Panambur and Kulur.

Even railway stations were almost empty.

Essential services like milk and ambulance are running.

Coronavirus cases in India crossed the 300 mark on Saturday March 21. Despite lockdowns in various states including Karnataka, the pandemic seems to be on the rise. In Karnataka alone, five fresh cases were reported on Saturday, taking the total to 20.

I would not confirm that the city came to a complete halt. Two wheelers were seen plying in several places. It was also observed that people were walking in many ares.

This is an indication that the people have not taken the situation seriously.

God has already written the actors and the script for the play. Law of nature. When the saturation limit is reached god balances in one or the other way. Definitely he might have tolerated greed , hate, torture of the weak in society , etc and now its payback time. So its time for all of us to have a roller coaster ride as of now till god thinks , now its perfect. Nothing can be done, all these Social Distancing, washing hands. do you think it will work? All governments just need time to prepare for the worst, that's the only reason for lock-down, because we are nearing Apocalypse. Good luck for the survivors.

Today I can feel some sense with people who supported to stay indoors because of the gravity of the situation all over the world,. Nobody can help us in this situation, except our sense and God. We have to follow according to the instruction given to us by the responsible authorities. And do remember to express our solidarity — this time, by applauding healthcare workers hard at work helping patients with the coronavirus.

This is one such virus, which broken the barrier of economical inequality. Today no one is safe. Earlier, all pandemics affected only the economically weaker section.

There is horrible consequences to expect from. Indian GDP which was already down around 4.5, going to fall below 2. Social harmony factor is at the lowest. Unemployment is at the highest. Incompetent government is heading the state. All indicate perfect recipe for horrible disaster.

People now do not have a choice but to be self-responsible for all their acts. Govt., employees have to learn to take their duties responsibly, instead of being yes master jing-bang crew listening illegitimate orders of their political masters.

I have seen so many Bund , curfew , but what I am seeing today is something that I never saw before , the ambiance is just like night so silence everywhere .Most of the people , politicians , opposition , Relegious leaders supported today . I was aware the janata curfew was going to be success , but I was not aware that the ambiance will be so silent . All the people supported .Few people had the mind set this bund was given by Modi and they mocked Modi . Yesterday few people commented negative about this curfew only because it was ordered by modi 2 mins silence for them , their own Relegious leaders only supported .Hats off to all the people for showing unity irrespective of relegion , political parties .Also thanks to All people of Mangalore , Jai Hind, Jai Narendra modi our dynamic leader .

Even otherwise on a Sunday there is no much of hustle and bustle in Mangalore. I really cannot understand the need for Janata Curfew. But yesterday the market was crowded and able to transmit any virus.

The Janata Curfew, is just a beginning so public is mentally prepared for days of lock downs it required. Perhaps 7 to 10 or even15 days. At the end of today's curfew, there will be an assessment on how many cases have been identified will be taken into consideration. Then the next phase comes into pic. We have to wait for the announcement. The Punjab CM has already extended this and moving to a lock down, The UP CM may also follow suit,

Very Good response from All the Citizens of Mangalore. All most entire Nation supporting this initiative and staying indoors today. As everyone know Next few days going to be Testing Time for us and we have to go out only if necessary. In Kasaragod since many positive cases reported in the last 2 days we need to be very very cautious before venturing out. Whole Europe situation very good lesson

Administration should arrange food for homeless and beggars and for those who depend on street food. We want good administration. Atleast they could have started Ganji center from 5.30 to 6.30am in certain centers.or after 9pm. What is their fate ???.
