Mangaluru, Mar 23: Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha on Monday, March 23 spoke about the situation currently prevailing in the city, where several people violated Section 144 which is in place. The lockdown came into effect on Sunday, March 22 at 9 pm and will be continuing till midnight on March 31.
In his message, the deputy commissioner urged people to stay indoors while the authorities work towards containing the spread of infections. The rules were put in place with a view to safeguard the health of the public. He also mentioned about the growing cases of coronavirus across the globe which has crossed the 300,000 positive cases and recorded over 14,000 deaths. Dr Harsha asserted that the countries with the top healthcare facilities were finding it difficult to cope with the impact of the coronavirus, and since India is known to have a fragile healthcare system it was imperative that as citizens we contributed to making sure the disease does not spread. To avoid a disaster, the deputy commissioner, therefore, ordered an arrest for the violators of the lockdown. The responsible people will be booked under sections 188, 269, 270 of IPC without any mercy, he said.
He also stressed that a person will be allowed to venture out only in the case of an extreme emergency. Following the lockdown orders, places of religious worship will remain shut until further notice.
The deputy commissioner also ordered residential associations to instruct their residents to stay inside. He also urged people to avoid panic-buying as the ones in need will have to suffer. Concluding his message, Dr Harsha requested residents to cooperate during these crucial days.

Mon, Mar 23 2020I fully agree with the comments of Mr. Vas. When the life gets tough, the toughness of police is required to instill a sense of responsibility in the minds of the people of DK. Sometimes
tough actions are required to save the country. You can see youngsters speeding in bikes, without even wearing a helmet, as though its time for merrymaking. I request parents and elders of the family to ensure their family members leave their homes only on emergency or to buy essentials. The law was disregarded in Italy and the country is paying a heavy price. Our sacrifice for a week, by supporting the administration, will help this country remain safe and healthy.

Mon, Mar 23 2020For those of you who "disagreed" with my comments, (probably just seeing the name and not reading the contents), I humbly request that you have some "insaniyat" humanity, consider the plight of those Policemen struggling to enforce Law and order, braving the heat and humidity, facing brickbats from the ignorant public who choose to defy order's meant for their own wellbeing. What about the Doctor's, nurse's and other health Staff who are risking their lives in taking care of the Corona case's ?? Well if you still choose to do things your way, go ahead risk your life but don't be a nuisance to your family, neighborhood and society. Hope better sense prevails.

Mon, Mar 23 2020Only if " Shoot at sight orders " for violators are given will we Indian's know what our social responsibility is. I and surprised that Mangaloreans / Kanarite's who prided themselves as well educated and savvy are behaving irresponsibly. Probably it is those who are the new residents of Mangalore' creating this ?? Don't let the situation detiorate, our neighbours in Kasaragod are suffering due to the foolhardy behaviour of a few Gulf returnees.

Mon, Mar 23 2020I definitely agree with the above message and many comments passed people should be staying inside.
But when the pharmacy and daily essentials are required who will bring them, the groceries, or pharmacies are not at your door step it will be some distance and single person should be allowed to go and get them. As per the police chief message above it seems even essentials/medical stores also to be shut down.
