Panaji, Mar 25: On Tuesday, chief minister Pramod Sawant announced that homeless people would be kept inside shelter homes while the state is subjected to lockdown.
Addressing the media, the government said it is making adequate provisions for this segment of the society and the district collectors would be entrusted with the job.
"The homeless will be kept in shelter homes identified by the collectors," the chief minister said.
This move comes as the homeless are at a high risk of contracting the infection. Most of the homeless beg for alms or camp outside restaurants to feed on leftovers. The lock-down currently imposed upon the state has further made them vulnerable since they are left devoid of food.
