Bangalore, Nov 27: On Thursday November 26, state Chief Minister(CM), B S Yeddyurappa, told the centre that the state is not inclined to hand over the investigation into the mining irregularities in the state to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “However, if the central government takes such a step, the state will extend full support,” he stated in a letter.

A letter as above was signed by the CM, B S Yeddyurappa, just before he proceeded on a trip to Haveri, after holding detailed discussions with the chief secretary, S V Ranganath, who was summoned to Yalahanka railway station here for the purpose. This is in reply to a letter addressed to the CM by union mining minister, B K Handik, urging the state to seek CBI inquiry into the mining scam.

It is believed, that the CM, during the discussions, expressed the opinion that ordering for a CBI inquiry now will put the government in a fix, as the issue will come before the coordinate committee for discussion. At the same time, taking a stand of not cooperating with the centre would not be right. Therefore, he wants to do a tight rope walk through this letter, it is being analyzed. He has claimed through the letter that the mining irregularities were probed by the state Lokayukta, who has submitted a 1000-page report and that the government has acted upon it by regulating illegal mining. Because of this, the state does not feel the need for a CBI investigation, the letter has clarified to the centre.
