Mangalore: Regional Level Gau Grama Yatre Comes to End in City

Mangalore, Nov 28: The regional level Gau Grama Yatre organized by the regional committee of Gau Grama Yatre, held as part of the national level ‘Vishwa Mangala Gau Grama Yatre’, undertaken with the aim of protecting the bovine animals and to spread awareness about the importance of living in villages, concluded at the Urwa Store ground here on Friday November 27.

The aims of the Gau Grama Yatre are, enactment of legislation of a central law to protect cows, conserving of Indian breeds of cows, banning use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides, reverting to organic farming, conservation of grazing lands for animals, etc.

The organizers announced at the venue that during the period of the Yatre since it began on November 19, a total of two lac signatures have been collected in support of the objectives of the Yatre.

Sri Rajshekharananda Swamiji of Gurpur Vajradehi Mutt and Sri Matanandamayee of Odiyoor Sri Gurudevadutta Samsthan, initiated the valedictory ceremony by offering puja and fodder to the cows.

Mangalore University vice-chancellor, Prof K M Kaveriappa participated as a chief guest. In his address, he opined that the balance of the nature and enriched human life would be possible only when animals, vegetation, cows, birds etc., which are parts of the country’s culture, are protected. He felt that consuming pulses, peanuts, soybean, milk, clarified butter (ghee) etc., which offer proteins in large quantities, is a better alternative to eating beef.  He also warned, that if the Indians do not take care to conserve their heritage and ancient knowledge, countries like the USA might obtain patent for milk, cows and the urine of the cows in the near future.

M B Puranik of Vishwa Hindu Parishat delivered introductory address. Vice president of Karnataka unit of Gau Grama Yatra Samiti, Rajesh Nayak, presided. Entrepreneurs, B Raghunath Somayaji, Rohan Monteiro, state general secretary of the Samiti, Gopal Chettiar, secretary, Mangalpady Namadev Shenoy, and member, R D Shastri, participated as chief guests.

President of the Mangalore region’s reception committee, Karnire Devanand Pai, was present. Coordinator, Ramesh S, welcomed. Jagadish Shenava compered the programme.
