Mangalore: Rx Life Holds Cycle Rally to Infuse Traffic Sense in Youth

Mangalore, Nov 29: The lifestyle modification and youth activity centre, Rx Life organized a cycle rally in the city on Sunday November 29 to popularize cycling as an expression of concern to conserve oil and to develop traffic sense in young minds. 

The cycling rally was inaugurated at Lady Hill with the slogan of `Bale cycle budka’ or ‘Come out and see the world’ as part of the Rx Life’s third anniversary. Vijay, marketing manager of T I Cycles Chennai and Prasad, partner of Surabhi agencies flagged of the rally. In all 682 cycle riders participated in the mega rally. Rally also aimed to impress the district administration to safeguard cyclists’ interests.   

The rally that began from Lady Hill proceeded through Kottara Chowki and reached Bengre on Tannir Bavi route via Kuloor Bridge. The rally saw participants from different age groups ranginf from age 7 to 70. The rally covered a distance of 18 kilometres. 





















The cycle riders crossed the backwaters to reach Bengre on two motor boats and enjoyed a great deal. The boats were provided by Mahajana Sabha ferry service, Bengre.  

The rally ended with valedictory function at Gandhi Park in Mannagudda, after returning from Bengre through Bunder- Alake- Kudroli route. At the valedictory a lucky dip draw was organized to select three winners. Pavithra Nayak won the first prize that comprised BSA ladybird cycle and Nihal and Srinivas won one Hercules cycle each. Several gifts and gift vouchers were presented to participants. Madhavanna, a person who is involved in repairing cycles for over 40years was honoured  by the organizors during the function.  

Organizers Giridhar Kamath, Gayatri Bhat and representatives from Team Mangalore as well as Gandhi Nagar Park Trust were among others present.

    A REALLY GOOD AND HEALTHY PROGRAMME TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT FROM MOTORISED VEHICLE MOVEMENT ON THE NARROW CONGESTED ROADS OF MANGALORE.AND A HEALTHY EXERCISE FOR THE YOUNG AND OLD.THE CORPORATION SHOULD DESIGN CYCLE LANES BY THE SIDE OF ROADS LIKE IN PUNE AND ALL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES FOR SAFER PRACTICE OF THIS FORM OF EXCERCISE AND DAILY MODE OF TRANSPORT.THIS IS A BIG HIT IN CHINA TOO.ALL THE BEST ORGANISERS FOR THIS THOUGHTFUL PROGRAMME

    I too feel Mangalore needs one.Infact the very inspiration behind the Rally is the good time my family had while cycling around Koai Lake. Now that a hanging bridge is planned jaining Sulthan Batteri to Tannir bavi,Tannir bavi to Bengre can be developed as a Cycling lane. Proposed Mangala carnish road joining netravati and falguni River banks can have a cycling lane as part of tourism develoment too.

    I am for it 100%. I appeal that the rally should take place on week day say between 9.00 AM to 11.00 AM through the heart of the city and force car owners to think small and travel by bus, two wheeler, auto or share a car. Think in the larger interest and your health. And of course goodbye to road congestion and pollution.
