Mangalore, Nov 30: Society of St Vincent De Paul (SSVP), Permannur near here, which has been providing selfless service to the poor, sick, distressed, elderly and the homeless people successfully since the past 75 years, celebrated its platinum jubilee on Sunday Nov 29, at the St Sebastian Church premises.

Vicar general of Mangalore diocese, Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, presided over the function that started at 6.30 pm. Fr Ronald Cutinho, director of SSVP in the diocese, Fr Thomas D'Souza, parish priest of St Sebastian Church Permannur, assistant parish priest, Fr Victor D’Souza, PU College principal, Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Prachar Sanchalan president Roy Castelino and Daijiworld.com editor-in-chief, Walter Nandalike were among the guests present on the dais, along with the office bearers of SSVP Permannur and the diocese.

Fr Thomas D'Souza, in his address, praised the work being rendered by the members of SSVP, and thanked them for reaching out to the needs of the poor people throughout the 75 years of the Society’s existence, and urged them to continue to work with the same spirit.

Walter Nandalike complimented president Baptist and all the members of the society for the efforts they put in towards organizing such a big event, by involving people from all walks of life, and ensuring that the event was attended not only by those within the parish, but also from around various parishes. He made a special mention of the fact that SSVP has several young members in it, which is a rare phenomenon in other units. SSVP is the only parish in the diocese, which has its own youth unit, he observed.
