Doha, Nov 29: On the first day of Eid Al Adha on Friday, November 27, Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Qatar, organized a day out to Al Ruwais Gardens here. Al Ruwais is located 110 km from the capital city and situated on the northern tip of the peninsula.

Over a hundred members of the club set out in a convoy of two buses and a few cars from Doha at about 7:45 am. The long drive to Al Ruwais was made shorter as the passengers in the buses entertained themselves with songs, jokes and laughter.

Sumptuous breakfast of ‘Sannas’ (special Mangalorean idlis), chutney and sambhar were served on reaching the destination. The act of introducing each family to the other members at the beginning itself served as an excellent icebreaker after which fun games were played. Tiny tots and toddlers played passing the teddy while the other children had to pass the hoop. The older boys and men had bowling at the wicket and the women played throw ball. Group games like tug-of-war and dumb charades were played. Bingo with attractive prizes was conducted.

Julian D’Cunha (JG Urwa), an active member of the club and a Konkani poet and writer sang a self-composed foot tapping Konkani song; in honour of MCC’s annual picnic.n Talented singers of the club sang old Konkani songs much to the delight of the audience. This was also an opportunity for those who wanted to shake a leg and enjoy the music and beautiful winter day. Alwyn D’Souza, president of MCC, and a talented musician, accompanied the singers on his guitar.

Prizes for the games and bingo were given away by Norbert Corda, Jerry D’Mello, Richard D’Souza and Alfred Sequeira.
