Mumbai, Apr 4: Maharashtra energy minister, Nitin Raut on Friday said that switching off the lights can lead to bigger problems. This was in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message on 'light'.
"If all lights are switched off at once it might lead to failure of the grid. All our emergency services will fail and it might take a week's time to restore the power," the Congress leader said.
Raut justified his statement saying that due to the lockdown the demand decreased from 23,000 megawatt to 13,000 megawatt as factory units are not operating and electricity consumption is recorded only from homes and essential services. Therefore, putting of the lights at once can lead to a huge difference in demand and supply.
