Sabarimala, Dec 5:
The earnings received by the Lord Ayyappa temple of Sabarimala since the beginning of the pilgrimage season from November 15 has crossed Rs 34 crore.

This was higher by about Rs four crore against the revenue during the corresponding period last year, an official press release said.

Total receipts included revenue from distribution of 'aravana' prasadam (a sweet delicacy) which touched Rs 14.89 crore, 'appam' Rs 3.35 crore and cash offerings Rs 12.75 crore.

Additional counters had been opened for distribution of 'prasadams' considering the increase in arrival of devotees.

The 41-day `Mandala' season will conclude with `Mandala Pooja' on December 26. After remaining closed for a few days, the temple will reopen for the `Makaravilakku' phase of the pilgrimage which will culminate on `Makara Samkranthi' day on January 14.

Over 30 million devotees had visited the shrine during the pilgrimage season last year.
