Beltangady, Dec 13: Uttaranchal Governor Margaret Alva was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of the Vishwa Tulu Sammelan held at Ujire, near here, on Sunday December 13.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that native Tulu women are embodied with many traits and have proven themselves in every sphere in the society.
Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade presided over the programme.

Sammelan chief secretary Dr Mohan Alva announced the 18 decisions that were taken during the Sammelan—to include Tulu in the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution, to award all facilities meant for minority languages, to rename Mangalore Airport as Tulunadu Airport, to improve facilities at Mangalore railway station, to provide basic amenities for developing Tulunadu as a tourist spot, to introduce Tulu news in All India Radio at Mangalore station, to rejuvenate Bramavar Sugar Factory, and others.
The Sammelan was the first of its kind to express the genuine concern of all Tulu natives to sustain the language and for the growth of the entire region.
Dr Heggade felicitated Tulu promoters NRI entrepreneur B R Shetty, Abu Dhabi, union law minister Veerappa Moily, M K Dharmaraj, New Delhi, Dayanand Pai, Bangalore, Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, veteran of co-operative movement M N Rajendra Kumar, M T R Sadanand Mayya, BCCI chief secretary Ratnakar Shetty, B Mohammed Haji Mohideen Thumbay, banker Banumati Tendon, Bangalore, Dr Manmohan Attavar, T Sham Bhat, B V Acharya, Bangalore, and Rammohan Rao, New Delhi, by presenting them each with a silver plaque.
Swami Vishweshateerta of Puttige Math, Udupi, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Abayachandra Jain and H Gopal Bhandary, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Dharmapal U Devadiga, Vishwa Tulu Sammelan convening committee chief secretary Dr Mohan Alva, and Tulu Sahitya Academy president Paltady Ramakrshna Achar, were also present on the dais.
Vishwa Tulu Sammelan secretary Yasho Varma welcomed the gathering. Dr Chinnappa Gowda proposed the vote of thanks while Moodbidri Muniraj Renjala and Manjula Mangalore compered the programme.
The people of Tulu origin residing across the country and abroad thronged the Tulunadu heritage village constructed for the convention. Although the traffic snarls caused delays to a few visitors here, the spirit was overwhelming and visitors braved all inconveniences to reach the venue on time.
Dr Heggade paid a visit to the media desk set up at the venue on Sunday to interact with the mediapersons including Vishwa Tulu Sammelan website designer Abhijit. He also visited the stall of Daijiworld.
Traditional Orchestra:
An orchestra of traditional Tulu music including dance tunes by Mime Ramdas group, enlivened the discussion meet held on the growth of Tulunadu. The viewers cheered the musicians with a standing ovation.
Seminar / Discussions Meet:
Dr Sripati Kalluraya, Dr N K Tingalaya, and Dr Shashikala Shetty, delivered a talk on experiments on achievement, to explore new ideas so as to achieve further growth.
Sativika R Shetty of Mumbai Bunts Sangh delivered a talk on ‘Growth of Tulunadu and Employment Opportunities Abroad’ and Giridar Prabhu on ‘Development of Tulunadu’, in the last seminar.
Professor Yedupati Gowda conducted the seminar.
Tulu Folk Arts:
Tulu folk dance, mimicry, folk singing, Yakshagana, play, and magic show were major attractions at the Sammelan, amidst serious discussions on sustainable growth of Tulu.
Variety entertainment programmes were held till the early hours from the start of the Sammelan and the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Yakshagana troupe staged Yakshagana play ‘Beera Pratape Deva Pooje’ till dawn on Sunday.
Tulu Heritage Village:
The heritage village was the replica of past glory set at the venue of the Sammelan and conveyed the splendour of Tulunadu a few decades ago.
Movie stars Add Glamorous Touch:
Well-known actress Leelavati and her son enthralled the audience with their singing at the Sammelan while Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty inaugurated the cultural programmes by beating the drums. Sandalwood actors Saman and Jayamala were present on Sunday during the concluding ceremony, to cheer the crowd.
Tulu Musical Extravaganza:
The Tulu musical concerts held on main stage and other stages featuring old hit songs such as ‘Ekka Sakka’, ‘Akka Battol’, ‘Enklen Badkere Budle’, and ‘Keddesa Battndye’, rekindled fond memories in the audience.
The songs from ‘Kadalamage’, by Dr Sunita Shetty and playback singers Tonse Pushkal Kumar, Ravindra Prabhu, Sangeetha Balachandra, and others also inspired the natives to do their mite for the growth of Tulu.
Sabi–Savaal Tulu Quiz Winners:
A Tulu quiz competition was held on Sunday, compered by Tulu Sahitya Academy former president Sitaram Kulal and Kadri Navaneeth Shetty. Nearly 2,332 competitors took part in the quiz.
