Mangalore: Sandesha Foundation to Bring Out Audio CD of New Testament
Media Release
Mangalore, Dec 14: The Holy Bible is the word of God in the words of inspired men. The Old and the New Testaments present to us the history of our salvation before and after the arrival of Jesus into the world. The Word of God incarnated through the Blessed Virgin Mary, revealed God’s compassionate love towards mankind in his words and deeds.
Sandesha Foundation, founded in 1991 by Bishop Henry D’Souza to promote peace and harmony through the fine arts, has planned to produce and offer the New Testament in Konkani (Bible Part I) to our brothers and sisters all over the world with the co-operation and support of all people of good will. The recording has been scheduled to begin on December 14, 2009. We hope to place it in the hands of the listeners at Lent 2010.
Fr Valerian Mendonca
It is a felt need of the hour not only to read the word of God but also to listen to the word of God. To the literate and the illiterate, to those at home and to those who travel, to the sick and the lonely, to the blind and the elderly, in India as well as abroad, an Audio CD of the Bible in Konkani is a treasure of immeasurable value in order to listen to the word of God.
The diocese of Mangalore had the four Gospels in Konkani in 1957, thanks to the direction of Bishop Basil Peris and the translator Monsignor Sylvester Menezes. In 1979 we received the whole New Testament in Konkani, thanks to the guidance of Bishop Basil S D’Souza and the translator Dr Victor Pinto. A revised version of the same was published in 1991 with the assistance of Fr Philip Nazareth and Mr Jossy Vas.
In 1991 Bishop Basil S D’Souza entrusted the mission of translating the Old Testament to Dr William Barboza. As the fruit of his labour of love, Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza released the first officially approved Konkani version of the whole Bible on November 1, 2000.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza’s Recommendation
Sandesha is a premier institution which spreads the good news of the Lord through the fine arts of music and dance. Its College of Fine Arts, Kala Kendra, Digital Studio, Kalotsava, Summer Course, Sandesha Awards and the like serve the cause of promoting Christian values of peace and harmony in society. The production of an audio-CD of the Bible is a felt need of the day in order to “listen to the word of God and keep it”. I recommend the project for the whole-hearted support by persons of good will and impart God’s blessings on them.
