Kasargod, Dec 15: The intelligence wing has reported that Tadiyandavida Nazeer from Kannur, terrorist-suspect who supposedly had links with the triggering of bomb blasts in Bangalore, had organized terrorist camps in Badiyadka region in the district. Reportedly, during his interrogation, Nazeer has agreed that this is true.
A special police team, which arrived from Kannur, visited various places in and around Badiyadka on the night of Saturday, and reportedly took with it a few people, who had provided space for organizing the said camps. While the local policemen were kept out of this operation, investigating policemen are not prepared to reveal anything now, in the interests of the investigation.
The allegation that Nazeer had trained people in terrorist activities by taking agricultural land on lease purportedly for cultivating ginger near Somwarpet in Kodagu district, is being verified by the Karnataka policemen. The investigation now undertaken will also focus on whether a pipe bomb found near a vegetable shop in Kanhangad on the night of December 5, 2008, was the handiwork of Nazeer’s men. The investigators have also been looking into the credibility of some reports which said that terrorist camps had also been held in Ajanoor, Pallikere, Bekal etc., within the district. Information is also being pooled about the people who have gone missing since Nazeer was arrested, and their bank accounts. The police department has been claiming that Ibrahim Moulavi from Wyanad, who had got shelter in a mosque in Kanhangad some time back on the pretext of imparting religious education, was a close associate of Nazeer, and had been instrumental in listing membership for Nazeer’s terror outfit.
The Karnataka policemen, who have been questioning Nazeer and his confidant, Shafas, since some time, have collected clues that Kannur had the been the hub of terrorist activities. The policemen from Kerala and Karnataka, who have been coordinating the investigation, hope to unearth full details of the terrorist links in due course and bring the culprits concerned, to book.
