Spurs legend Jimmy Greaves out of hospital

London, Apr 15 (IANS): Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday said that club legend Jimmy Greaves has been discharged from the hospital and is now back at his home.

Spurs in their statement quoted Greaves' son saying that his father is "comfortable." "He has not been well, and we are still waiting on all the results. On behalf of our family, I would like to thank all the NHS staff that have been looking after Dad and for all the well wishes we have received," said Danny Greaves.

The 80-year-old, a World Cup winner with England in 1966 was earlier reported as being treated in the hospital for an unconfirmed illness. Speculation at the time ranged from a stroke to coronavirus. However, Tottenham soon confirmed that Greaves had suffered neither.

Greaves is fourth on the list of all-time England goalscorers, behind Wayne Rooney (53), Bobby Charlton (49) and Gary Lineker (48). He suffered a severe stroke in 2015.

Greaves missed out on a World Cup medal despite being a part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad because he was injured during the tournament's group stage.

After recovering, Greaves was left out of the starting XI for the final and his replacement, Geoff Hurst, scored a hat-trick as England beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time.
