Bengaluru: Opinion against SSLC exam - Minister livid, proposes notice to official

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 20: State primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar, said that notice will be served on the officer who expressed the view that it would be in the best interests of everyone to arrive at the results of SSLC students by giving them grading on the basis of the examinations which were conducted during this year.

Additional commissioner of Dharawad division Maj Siddalingaiah S Hiremath, who conducted a meeting of education department officials, had said that the meeting came to the conclusion that a recommendation should be sent to the secretary in the department of primary and secondary education, seeking to arrive at the results of the SSLC students pertaining to the year 2019-20 by arriving at grading on the basis different examinations held during the year. The minister proposes to serve notice to Hiremath for this comment.

 S Suresh Kumar

The officer, who had held a meeting with officials of the education department on the issue of holding SSLC examination, had noted that Dharwad division has 2.6 lac SSLC students spread over more than 700k examination centres. He had said that it is impossible to maintain social distance between students during transportation and it is also hard to increase the number of examination centres. Therefore, the meeting chaired by him had come to the conclusion that it would be apt to arrive at the result of the children through the grading system.

The minster has taken serious note of the fact that copies of the said decision had been circulated through websites. The minister is of the view that this issue is beyond the jurisdiction of the additional commissioner and that the officer is expected to implement the policies of the government. He also is outraged at the fact that the additional commissioner held a meeting and got the decision passed, even though he is not expected to do so. Suresh Kumar said that the decision taken at the meeting convened by the additional commissioner need not be given much importance and that it has been decided to serve notice to the officer as he held the meeting in transgression of his jurisdiction.

It will be better to cancel the exam because social distancing is impossible in exam hall even after the students attempt the exam they will be tensed that they may get corona and they are also chances to get affected by corona. The health of each students is valuable .the life is only for once .so it is advisable to cancel the exam.

With due respect to the Honourable Minister of Education. I,request you to re consider your views about the SSLC&PUC exams owing g to the Coronavirus epidemic spreading everywhere
Please take back your view and consider grading system in the wake of the virus causing deaths .Since our exam centres are not that hygienically equipped to combat social distancing .We need to refrain from the exams on an humanitarian footing. Please consider the anguish of the children who might have forgotten the subject matter and the tension in the minds of the parents.

    Sir
These are various option I could suggest
    1) let the students take exams in the same school and evaluators from different schools
    2) shuffle them to closer by schools using all classrooms every schools will have at least 12 class rooms so social distancing can be well maintained in both 1 and 2
    3) keep the exams as online only objectives instead of 80 marks keep it at 40 Mark's remaining u can assess from FA or SA anyways 20 Mark's are internal marks
Please do conduct the exams since many would not have done very well in the FA or SA .
I can understand the challenges from a child , management and govt point of view. My best wishes to all .

Minister Suresh Kumar will do well to keep his ego in check - his reported behaviour does not behove his age and station. the suggestion makes eminent sense - rather than risking the childrens' lives through examinations during the pandemic. After all, there is nothing that this or any Govt can do to control the pandemic; the least it can do is to mitigate its spread. Minister - tough times call for mature decisions!!

    Respected minister
    It is a small suggestion
If you are so concerned about conducting exams across the state , keeping aside copying problem,it is better to conduct exams of students in their own school. As this may reduce reduce the number of people assembling in a center. It will be easy for the school staff to maintain their children in the school. Students will also be in less pressure as it is their own school.

Sir, firsttly i would congratulate you and our government for taking several steps on #COVID-19. RESPECTED SIR , now i would like to talk about the SSLC examination i kindly request you to cancel the exams because it is of no use if u conduct exams all the students have lost their concentration on studies due to this long gap and in case u conduct there will be no social distance maintained by the students and if a student has a corona virus he would not let it out and due to one there is a chance of spreading to all students ao its good to just cancel the SSLC exam and promote the students according to their average or just by a report card mentiones passed

The department can express view to department head in the interest of public and government. The students put under panic. It's not leak of paper. Mr. Minister call the meeting of all the concerned and settle panic of students, parents and education department. The gates of heaven will neither be closed or open by not conducting exam. The students acquired knowledge on subject s. On settling peace will prevail among students, parents and society. It's better not to conduct sslc exam and for puc pending subject s average mark or highest mark can be awarded

Well said. That's what even I was trying to explain in my comments. SSLC is not any life changing kind of an exam. When CBSE can make such a great move by cancelling their exams in GCC countries, why cant this minister. After the completion of SSLC exams, and getting a seat in a PU college, this markscard is of no use. Even if the CEO of any major company takes the interview, he wont be bothered about these SSLC exam marks. Wonder what does this minister think about SSLC.

Conducting exams can be done... But if the children get infected who will take the responsibility??? Can we see their suffering??? Today if anybody dies in any part of the world our heart cries even if we are not related... And when our own children's life is at risk what will b the students and parents condition??? Children r vulnerable... It's his duty and ours to protect them... Every week he's giving a press conference n giving them a heart attack... He is a very sincere minister but here we need to think from our heart and not our intelligence..... Even if they loose a year it's ok..... But their health and survival is important.....

Let's all pray for him that God enlightens him..

Sadly exams > students life for Karnataka board. Just cancel the exam it's just an exam which ensures a seat in college. There was a time when sslc used to be important but not now.

Is it posible to maintain social distance in the present exam centres most of them Govt and aided schools? How do you transport students from remote villages without braking the rule of social distancing?

Dear Minister, I am strongly in opinion with the meeting of Dharwad officials. Its you who is creating confusions to these young students. SSLC is just an exam which helps in getting a seat for PUC. Its not any great kind of an exam, which would help in getting an university seat. Other exams like PU, univeristy exams are understandable. What is the issue in cancelling the exam during this time? CBSE has taken a wise decision by cancelling the exams in GCC countries. Please try to understand the stress that these SSLC students face. Also imagine, if at all you keep the exams, how many parents do you expect would send their kids to the exam centre?
