Mangalore, Dec 19: Vishwa Konkani Sardar Basti Vaman Shenoy Platinum Jubilee Celebration Committee under the leadership of Dr P Dayanad Pai has decided to hold platinum jubilee celebration of Vaman Shenoy at T V Raman Pai Convention Hall here on Jan 17, 2010 at 5.00 pm to mark his 75th birthday. He will be felicitated on the occasion as recognition for his contribution towards creating harmony among various languages and cultures.
The felicitation ceremony will be inaugurated by union law minister M Veerappa Moily. Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat is also expected to be present on the occasion. Commemorative book introducing to readers Shenoy’s achievements in bringing about harmony among various cultures and languages will be released during the ceremony.
Unity through languages, a seminar will be held in the afternoon on the day at the venue. At the seminar, scholars of Kannada, Tulu, Beary, Kodava and Konkani languages will present the papers.
Shenoy was heading the Konkani Jatha held in 1992 that pressed for including Konkani in eighth schedule of the Constitution and also instrumental in setting up Konkani Sahitya Academy in Karnataka. E was also the chairman of the academy from 1997-2001.
Shenoy further worked as Syndicate bank manager and also headed first World Saraswat Sammelan in 199 as chief convenor.
