Romanian athletes to test for COVID-19 before training or competition

Bucharest, Apr 24 (IANS): Romania's athletes must take tests for COVID-19 before returning to training or competition, the country's Minister of Youth and Sports Ionut Stroe has said.

"Any kind of training or competition will not start without a test. So all the training stages of the athletes will start with the test for coronavirus, and it will be resumed periodically," the minister told a press conference on Thursday, reports Xinhua news agency.

Stroe added that competition organisers and clubs will need to find financial resources to support the testing of athletes.

According to Stroe, there are no cases of COVID-19 among Romania's athletes.

The minister also expressed his point of view that sporting competitions in Romania may resume in June, but stressed that it is too early to establish a specific date because the evolution of the pandemic is not known.
