13 lakh PF account holders withdraw Rs 4,684.52 crore

New Delhi, Apr 28 (IANS): Account holders are increasingly withdrawing money from the PF accounts, taking advantage of the rebate due to the lockdown. According to the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) of the Ministry of Labour, about 13 lakh account holders have availed this facility so far as Rs 4,684.52 crore has been paid on claims.

About 7.40 lakh claims are associated with the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana package.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the number of withdrawals from exempted PF trusts has also increased. According to the data on April 27, a total of 79,743 exempted PF trust account holders withdrew Rs 875.52 crore from the accounts.

Similarly, 54,641 account holders of 222 private establishments withdrew Rs 338.23 crore, while 24,178 beneficiaries of 76 public sector establishments withdrew Rs 524.75 crore from their accounts. Similarly, 23 cooperative sector establishments gave Rs 12.54 crore to 924 account holders.

What is the discount?

On March 26, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced a package of 1.70 lakh crore under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, in which PF account holders, who have been facing economic crisis during Covid-19, were also allowed to withdraw money.

Following the announcement, a new sub-para (3) was added to Para 68L of the EPF Scheme, 1952. Under which an account holder can withdraw money equal to 75 per cent of the account amount or three months dearness allowance (whichever is less). After withdrawing money, the account holder will not need to re-credit the account.

It is not Modi magic, the reason for big victory is, no alternative for PM position from other parties & negative campaigning from BJP against opposition parties worked.
Also, Modi came to power with "Achche Dinn" promises (later party confirmed those are not promises but Jumlaas!) & ending "Corruption", which is still running successfully, but Godi media is covering up!

This is much expected even before the Covid-19 crisis hit the country. Modiji can comes any day of time address from the television channed and tell the nation that the new currency rendered useless from midnight.
It is better for PF account holders to keep the money in Dollars, Euro or any other strong currency.

This BJP government many one day say all the lockers are state property to deficit the budget shortfall and help the crony capitalist to cover the willful defaulter bad loans.

I may not expect $5 trillion economy very soon. But India may have new currency like 'Zimbabwe' or 'Indonesia' with zero's to math the trillion value to buy loaf.

Pessimistic View clearly shows your hatred towards BJP/MODI
I think ppl like you must have lost heavily due to demonitization. So you r worried about lockers. I remember you had mentioned in 2016 that soon petrol will cross rs 100 as well as dollar. It is now almost 4 years and you know the present rate of both
Just because you oppose MODI the present keadershipwill not change. Whole world appreciate MODI action in regard of steps taken to fight the virus.

Whole world appreciates Modi for steps taken to fight Corona (please also add) after 'Namaste India' and musical chair MP was complete. I

If it wasn't for these two, the lock-down would have started in Jan. That shows Modi's determination to fight the pandemic.

It is expected. Apart from COVID 19, on one side, the interest rates are reducing, on other side there is no safety to the account holders. Everyday the law changes. No one knows what will be the new rule on PF tomorrow. Last time there was a proposal to scrap PPF accounts of NRIs, who actually help the Govt to accumulate foreign exchange reserve by bringing dollars to the country. There is no safety in private banks. No returns in SBI. God knows what will be the situation for retired persons who depend on such income.
