Bengaluru, Apr 28: Immense pressure has been mounted on the state government to allow sale of liquor in the state. The government therefore is seriously contemplating the desirability of giving permission for the sale of liquor after May 3. Sources believe that the government may allow sale of liquor in places other than the red zones.

It is said that the excise officials have put up a proposal before the government for consideration to start selling liquor if the lockdown extends beyond May 3. The official have also sighted suicides, suicidal tendencies and withdrawal symptoms which many are facing, to support their recommendation. The government has also noted thefts happening all over the state in liquor shops understandably by people who cannot survive without liquor.

Liquor shops and Mysore Sales International Ltd outlets will be allowed to attend to parcel service. It is believed that even if the permission for sale is given, the customers will not be allowed to consume liquor on the spot. The decision to sell liquor is largely influenced by hectic lobbying by influential people and also the need to rev up the revenue of the state.
