Mumbai, Apr 30: Even though the number of cases in the city seems to be rising consistently, the rate at which the number of cases doubled have increased to 10 days from the previous 8.3 days between April 17 and April 27.

Doubling time is the term used to indicate the time taken for the cases to double. The state records the average doubling rate to be 8.9 days.

One of the most feared hotspot surrounding Dharavi, the G-North ward has also witnessed increase in the number of days cases doubled from 4.5 days to 8.6 days.

The analysis was done by the central team that had visited the city last week to check the preparedness of the city to fight against the virus.

The report presented by the central team stated that, ward wise there was a significant improvement in the doubling time between the analyzed period. The worst hit area in the city G-South showed remarkable changes in the doubling time from 10.6 days to 17.6 days.

Municipal commissioner Praveen Pardeshi lauded the BMC efforts and said, "This is very encouraging for us who have been working hard to increase the doubling time. We want to further extend the same to 14 days to ensure the curve flattens."

Meanwhile the team pointed out nine wards where the doubling time decreased. The D-ward has reduced to 10.6 days from 12 days. Other wards where the doubling time decreased were R-Central (Borivli), R-North (Dahisar), F-South (Parel), M-East ( Govandi), and T-ward (Mulund).

Byculla MLA and corporator, Rais Shaikh suggested the BMC intensified screening, testing and isolate at the earliest especially the areas witnessing outbreak.
