Except containment zones, liquor stores to open across Karnataka from May 4

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 2: With the Centre’s guidelines in place, the Karnataka government will allow liquor outlets to open in all places except containment zones after May 3.

The state excise commissioner has permitted in his order dated May 2 sale of liquor in CL-2 (retail shops) and CL-11C (state-run retail shops such as MSIL) besides depots of the Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Ltd (KSBCL) effective from May 4 under certain strict conditions. The excise commissioner in his last order dated April 19 had banned sale of liquor till May 3 and functioning of liquor distilleries except those which produce alcohol based sanitizers till midnight on May 3.

The current order permits sale of liquor through KSBCL depots except in containment zones declared by the central and state government, district administration and local administration subject to the following conditions:

1. Liquor outlets are not allowed to function in containment zones announced by the state government / state government / district administration or local administration.

2. The permission is given to sell liquor only through retail shops and MSIL shops and KSBCL depots.

3. The liquor outlets may remain open only from 9 am to 7 pm.

4. Only five customers can be entertained at a time and they should maintain a minimum distance of six feet between each of them.

5. The customers visiting to buy liquor should mandatorily wear face masks and sanitizers should be used at the outlets.

6. Only standalone outlets are allowed to function. The permission to sell liquor does not apply to those outlets situated in malls and supermarkets.

7. Rules and regulations under Karnataka Excise Act and its relevant sections should also be observed along with the conditions mentioned above.

Gold, wine was also chosen by Kali out of the 10 places for His stay in this world. This year no Jewellery Shops were open for Akshaya Thrithiya. So I thought, our Nation would progress rapidly, as the wine shop too is closed and Kali will go for vacation outside.

But Food and other essential items were given less time compared to wine. Jossey whose Palms did you grease to keep wine stores open?

K V Kamath, Mangalore, There was no for Jossey or anybody to grease the palm in opening of wine shops. It was in the interest of the government and it's necessity due to winding downfall financially from all sides which made this open many shops and businesses.

The real logic behind the move could be drying up revenue of the states. Alcohol sales are a good source state revenue - about 25 per cent of all.

This is a scandalous decision taken by the state government.. They are only intrested in the excise revenue, generated by the sale of alcohol !!! Now wives, children, family members, will dread the thought of their men getting drunk, blowing away savings meant for households expense, on booze..... creating a nuisance in society, increasing pain and sorrow for the entire family !!!!

It's not a wise idea to open all wine shops at a stretch ...may be on rotation basis shops can be opened .
The concern is the cash strapped govt mechinery , so let MSIL open first then on due course let other shops too in a specified manner .

All of a sudden if all shops open it causes a heavy rush and police people will have a hard time to control

Also enjoy your trip from Mumbai to Mangalore and make it a safe one. As I and my wife are held up in Udupi as we cannot fly back to New York due to restrictions both in India and New York.
