Panaji, May 5 (IANS): Avoiding alcohol, drinking plenty of water and staying indoors during the hottest part of the day are some of the precautionary measures mentioned in the Goa government advisory for heat wave, expected to hit later this week, .
"Avoid alcohol during this time. To prevent dehydration, drink at least eight glasses of water, fruit juice, buttermilk or other fluids daily. Take additional precautions when working outdoors in the field or exercising. Drink water or juice even not thirsty," the advisory issued here on Tuesday.
"Where possible, avoid going out during the hottest period of the day i.e. early and late afternoons. Wear lightweight, light-coloured and loose-fitting clothing. Keep the house well ventilated, especially the cooking area. During the hottest part of the day, cover the windows with curtains, cloth, bed sheet, etc," it said.
According to Indian Meteorological Department officials, Goa is expected to be hit by a heat wave from May 8 to May 14.
