PM Cares Fund has to be transparent: Congress

New Delhi, May 6 (IANS): After Congress chief Sonia Gandhi questioned the PM Cares fund and said it should be utilised for welfare of the migrants, the Congress has stepped up its attack, with senior party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday saying that the fund, which is the PMO's pet project, should be made "transparent".

He alleged that a "humongous" amount of money has been taken through donations and "Ceaser's wife cannot be above suspicion".

Singhvi tweeted: "It's been over a week asking PMO India Narendra Modi and HMO India, the account of the humongous amount of money taken as donations by PM Cares but to no avail. Ceaser's wife can't be above suspicion and thus, PM Cares, a pet PMO project has to be transparent."

"Government can spend nearly Rs 100 crores on transport and food, etc. for just one public programme in Gujarat, when the Rail Ministry has the largesse to donate Rs 151 crores to the PM's corona fund, then why can't these essential members of our nation's fabric be given a fraction of the same courtesy, especially free rail travel, at this hour of acute distress?"

On May 4, Sonia Gandhi had said in a statement that the party will bear the cost of the travel of the migrants after it came to light on social media that migrants were charged for railway tickets to ferry them across the country to their respective home states.

She had said, "I hoped that thousands of crores which came in the name of charity will be used for nation builders and they will be provided free travel, but I am pained this has not been done."

My simple policy is never give a rupee to any State Owned or Central Owned relief schemes. Donate directly to the affected persons. You will have the mental satisfaction of helping the poor. Find God in your neighbor. If there is anyone suffering next to you, help him first. If you go in search of needy outside your neighborhood, you will end up wasting the resources on wrong cause.

All relief funds are scam funds. No one has any control or accountability on utilisation of such funds. If the politicians can take away the allotted funds for Govt shemes, tax payers money can be given to Malyas, Modies, Chokies, Ambanies and Adanies, how can you trust any relief funds being utilised for right purpose.

I wrote here few weeks ago about transparency of this fund and urging people only to donate local charities where the money goes to needy people in your area. Don’t trust any politicians as they will swallow what ever money you donate and use it for illegal activity such as purchasing MP OR MLA’s.

    Totally agree with you Clifford.

We should give the money to any of the trustworthy social organizations who are taking care of the migration workers, daily wage labourers, poor people from day one. Then we are sure that money goes to the right cause. In Mangalore itself there are Samaritans who are distributing meals and rice irrespective of caste, creed and religion. They are the living Gods.

We have heard about political party taking the food grains from the government and repacking with party stickers. Some have gone to the extent of getting the kits from people like Sudha Murthy , putting their sticker and then distributing it. So it is best to avoid politicians.

PM Cares Fund may be another scam as it is not coming under the purview of CAG auditing and no transparency of how it is utilized. So far we have not seen the amount spent when people were dire need of it. So your hard earned money may not reach the needed people.

Help the mankind, support the local trustworthy Social Organisation

Yes, Congress is right. PM should subject the funds to CAG audit. Otherwise it can be utilised to purchase non BJP MLAs and MPs.
