Mangaluru: Yenepoya University NSS Unit conducts awareness programmes on coronavirus

Mangaluru, May 6: NSS programme coordinator, officers and volunteers of Yenepoya University have not been deterred by the lockdown and are doing their service to the nation by spreading awareness among public and students on COVID-19 via videos, posters and online training programmes. They have successfully completed online training to 1,200 NSS volunteers of Yenepoya University by providing information on the origin, spread and preventive measures as well as the importance of using the Aarogya Setu application.

Dr M Vijayakumar vice-chancellor inaugurated the programme and highlighted the preventive measures to be taken during this pandemic. Dr Gananath Yekkar state officers, NSS Government of Karnataka addressed the NSS volunteers through online google meeting. Dr C V Raghuveer, Dr B H Sripathi Rao pro-vice-chancellors, deans and associate deans of all the constituent colleges addressed the students by their valuable message on COVID-19. NSS Unit also acknowledged Dr.Kalpana Gopalan IAS chief secretary, Youth Empowerment and Sports, GOK, Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi chancellor, Farhad Yenepoya pro-chancellor, Dr Gangadhar Somayaji registrar, regional director Khadri Narasimha, Government of India, Dr Poornima Jogi state NSS implementation officer, GOK, Uppin youth officer Government of India and UNICEF team for their support and encouragement to organize the programme from April 1. The coordinator and programme officers were given the responsibility to train all the NSS volunteers apart from this Dr Akshay and Dr Pracheth, the programme officers also served in quarantine centres as medical doctors who were giving services to the people. Dr Ashwini Shetty programme coordinator was also been invited as a resource person to various colleges of Mysore University and Mangalore University for an online webinar to talk on preventive measures of COVID-19 and also on the topic, Women’s Health and Wellness programme and Stress Management during COVID-19 lockdown period. NSS Unit personnel also attended a state-level programme on Stress Management during COVID-19 lockdown period and legal awareness on COVID-19.

Posters created by students to spread awareness on COVID-19

The students of pharmacy, allied health science, MBBS and degree college, Ayurveda, dental colleges created posters and short film on COVID-19 under the guidance of Mohammed Asif, Dr Imran, Dr Jnanesh, Savitha Kamath, Shalini Sequiera, Niyaz and Dr Shemjaz and Renita Priya.

NSS Unit distributing 400 Kg rice and 60 packs of groceries to 60 families


Programme coordinator and programme officers of the university donated 400 kg rice and other food items and groceries to 60 underprivileged families at Kannagudde and to the housekeeping staff as well to the Antony Garbage Carriers. They also acknowledged Suchetha and her family for contributing and extending a helping hand.
