Classes 1 to 7 likely to reopen in Karnataka if lockdown not extended

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SD)

Bengaluru, May 7: If the central government does not extend the lockdown, Karnataka government has reportedly decided to reopen primary and middle schools from June 1.

Commissioner K G Jagadeesha of the department of Public Instruction stated that if the lockdown ends by May 17, the schools would reopen.

"If the lockdown is extended, then obviously schools would not open. So far, we have decided that schools will start as usual since the summer vacation ends on May 31," he added.

However, taking into consideration the situation at hand, department officials have been consulting the health department with regards to guidelines to be undertaken once schools reopen, sources from the Department of Primary and Secondary Education revealed. One of the major concerns the officials have is ensuring social distancing.

"The health department has suggested that classes for students between standards 1 and 4 can be held in the morning and the rest of them can have classes in the afternoon. To maintain social distancing, more classrooms are required," an official commented.

Due to the lockdown, the SSLC exams which were scheduled to be held on March 27 this year, had been postponed. Probable proposals are being made by the Department of Primary and Secondary Education to hold the exams by the first week of July.

"We have decided to start high school classes after the SSLC exam. So far, we have decided to start classes only for the students of Class 1 to 7 starting June 1. Once the SSLC exams are over, the high school classes can begin again as the exams will need to be held in the high schools and holding classes at the same time is not possible," Jagadeesha said.

"We have to formulate all the guidelines first in consultation with the health department and then communicate this with the schools. Some schools may not have a big building. So we have to see whether classes can be held in a staggered manner. We are yet to decide on the logistics," a department official asserted.

Children's till this virus goes fully. We won't bother even if one year gets wasted. Do you think children can maintain distance? Also, think about how teachers will re-act with the children.
This is a very bad decision.

We cannot experiment with small kids lives.

How they can maintain social distancing? What happens if virus spreads?

We were expecting the classes to begin only if there is zero cases for 2-3 months or only when vaccines are available.

What these people are thinking. Are they out of their mind . Most of the states in India have declared summer vacation till july 30 and these are planning to opening school just after lockdown and how can they even think that children can maintain social distancing that even adults can't do and obviously children will meet with ther frineds and will foget about social distancing and if only one child is covid positive then you can think what will happen and I also think that these so called educated beurocrats care about the life of children which are so important resource for the country.

    See how community clustering :

    1. Student vehicles commute joints.

    2. Students per vehicle limit maintenance.

    3. Class muster.

    4. Social distancing during class.

    5. Social distancing during P.T.

    6. Movement of students in veranda.

    7. Common point of contacts - cricket bat, ball, wickets, net, contaminated ground surfaces.

    8. Toilets usage social distancing (6 feet) apart - urinals & wash basins

    9. Physical fights, teacher's punishments,

    10. Dust, virus transmission from dust boards etc etc

Considering just these 10 points, will it be safe for our young kids to have regular school before vaccines are approved? There are many reasons which aren't pointed out.

Sir, I feel you should not to he school for children 1 to 7 in June even though the lockdown ends. Because, children may not do the social distancing and their life may be at risk.
Who will take the responsibility of corona not infecting the children.
    They are our future citizens.
Please think properly and take decision, because children are very important for the country.

Right minded people will not think of opening schools at this juncture or even in the near future. Not at least up to class 12. It is like putting the entire population in jeopardy. Is it possible to have distancing between children? Distancing will be the last thing in a child's mind.

Hope there are no other agenda in mind....Trying to collect school fee etc...….

Schools and places of worship should be the last areas to open....probably....

It appears that the virus has affected the brains and intellect of these so called advisors and decision makers. Now they are only interested in making money to fill their empty coffers...

First they open liquor shops and now they want to play with schools.

Without ensuring ZERO cases through out the state gor atleast a month and having a sound strategy which is approved by educationists and parents there is no question of opening schools.
Let them first complete all pending exams, explore online classes for sometime and opening in a phased manner there should be no thoughts of opening .

STOP doing trial and Error and putting more lives at risk...

Government should plan to open the schools, only when Government and School Management can ensure that the children will be safe. It is not through "trust me" statement but through "show me or demonstrate to the society" as to how you are going to do it. It may take 1 month 3 months or 6 months. If the duration is likely to be 3 months, then plan for Virtual classes to start with and then restricted class room sessions when it is safe enough. Safety of our children is of utmost importance and not whether they will get 100% marks. The decision of opening the school must be taken by government after structured review by the experts and the outcome of the review must be shared with the public at large.

Adults and higher education to work online. And kids in the frontline?
    They've completely lost it.
Loosing one year academically is better than sending kids to school before September.
A good option is home schooling for one year if this crazy and cruel idea is carried forward.

I swear I'm not going to send my child if the school will open that soon. I'm not going to risk the life of my only child just to give revenue to the school or the government. Im paying a lot of money to see her grow and not be put in danger by someones decision. Who ever is the deciding factor to this issue they should think of their own children and see how they will feel sending these children at these time of pandemic wherein 50k of cases active in India. Life is not about money always, government should think what they will do for the future generations not by risking their lives. Even lockdown is lifted do you think it will lessen the risk of these children not to get infected when immediately you wanted them to be in school? There are more ways to teach the children and it's your call how the government will act on it.

Have they lost their mind ?

We are literally 23 days away from June 1st. How safe is anyone for that matter to even think of starting school !!
Children will go to school and do what? Beat plates ? Light diyas & candles ?
Children have no books, no stationery , fees not paid, etc. So, on what grounds have the so called educated authorities made such a stupid suggestions?

And what's this nonsense of morning for gr 1-4 and afternoon for gr 5-7?
Forget logistics, is it even sanely possible ? What about teacher's children? Children of ancillary staff? Office staff ? etc.
Why add to the difficulties of already struggling parents ?
What about in a city like Bengaluru? Can they even afford such a huge risk.

True, we want our academics to begin soon but not at the cost of risking the lives of young children, who are equally susceptible.
Please leave our children out of this, and first finish off the pending examinations. The future of these children are on tenterhooks..so set your priorities in the right direction.

In USA Govt. is not opening the schools because summer vacation will start from May/June and goes till August depending on different states calendar. So they are not considering opening schools and planning to continue the remote learning mode for the rest of the academic year (Due to advanced system, it is possible).
Even though mortality and infection rates are still on the rise, already many states opened their parks, beaches, restaurants and barber shops. In fact they never enforced total lock down from the beginning and casualties at very higher side compare to any other country.
In India all the Governments done their best to control this epidemic from beginning, due to peoples irresponsible behavior there are few lapses however by and large it was successful.
