Kuwait: Gala Ending to Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Kannada Koota

Kuwait, Jan 10: Christmas and New Year Day celebrations combined with the annual general body meeting of Kuwait Kannada Koota was held at the Indian Community Girls High School, Salmiya here, recently. The programme marks a gala ending of the year long silver jubilee celebrations of the koota. 

The event started with Ganesha Stuti by Madhavi Kulkarni and group followed by paying silent homage to the departed souls of Kannada Cine Artiste of immense fame Dr Vishnuvardhan and the Kannada gayana gaarudiga C Ashwath. The variety entertainment programme began with Saraswathi Stuti in Koochupudi dance style by the graceful Maitri Moorthi. Rashmi Nayak and Anusha presented Todimanagalam in Bharatanatyam style.

A number of dance items were performed by Koota children both for Hindi and Kannada songs. Youth talen presented a couple of dances. Aditi Suvarna’s dance to Kehna Hai Kyaa hindi song and Dinesh Murthy’s highly stylish Michael Jackson dance enthralled the spectators. Also dances by Sanjana Shenoy, Sudarshan, Akhilesh, Ajay Karkal, Rutwik Shettigar and Neal Sanctis were all highly appreciated by the gathering.


































































The selfless services of different committee members, all performers during different year long programmes and their directors were appreciated by presenting mementoes on the occasion. The final issue of the year of ‘Marala Mallige’ was released by president Satish Chandra Shetty. 

In his presidential remarks, Shetty appreciated the whole-hearted co-operation and untiring support of the fellow office-bearers in the executive committee, different committee members, and volunteers. This was followed by a Christmas and Country song by Samvrutha Prasad and Sameer Prasad. 

A memorable ‘Rasa Sanje’ directed by Dr Surendra Nayak, who also sang ‘Baare Baare Chandada Cheluvina Tare of Nagara Haavu fame received a thunderous applause. He also led a group to sing ‘Taila Siriya’ to Nityotsava tune which received standing ovation from the members as this song depicted the activities of Kannada Koota. The lyrics for the song were provided by Suguna Mahesh and Dr Azad of the Koota. 

The KKK e-directory was launched and the briefing was given by Chinmaya. Christmas celebration and skit were performed by koota children directed and co-ordinated by Jayalakshmi, Vikram Baltilaya, Ronaldo and Tharendra Shettigar.

Girish Shenoy, treasurer presented the financial report for the concluding year. Following the power point presentation of the KKK, Sudhakar Shetty performed the duties of the returning officer for the election of new executive committee for 2010 by inviting nominations and conducting elections. However, all members of the executive committee were selected unopposed. Harsha Rao was selected as the president, Subhadra Surana as vice-president, Anil Prabhu as general secretary and Revanasiddappa Hombali as the treasurer were selected. 

Dinesh, outgoing vice-president proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with National Anthem and delicious dinner served by Oriental Restaurant & Confectionaries.
