Mangalore, Jan 11: The mystery behind the disappearance of Reshma Vas from Kompadav Muchchoor four months ago has been finally solved with her decomposed body being found in a well at Kateel.
It has come to light that Reshma was murdered by her paramour, Francis D’Souza alias Sunil four months ago and dumped in a well. As the well was situated in a remote area, there has been a long delay in bringing forth the unfortunate incident. The police have taken Francis into custody.
It was four months ago that Reshma Vas went missing and her husband had lodged a complaint in this regard at the bajpe police station. Despite herculean effort, the police had failed to crack the case. Following this, Reshma’s father William Pinto filed a Habeas Corpus and soon the investigation took speed.
Through the EMEI number of Reshma’s cell phone, police tracked calls on the cell and found out the current owner of the cell phone. The cell phone owner informed the police that he bought it from shop selling second hand cell phones at the Central Market here. After investigation on who sold the cell phone to the shop, the police zeroed in on Francis.
On interrogation, it is learnt that Francis has confessed to killing her after Reshma threatened to inform their illegitimate relationship to his wife. The arrested confessed that in fit of rage he slapped Reshma as a result of which she fell unconscious. Later, Francis dumped the body into a nearby well. Reshma was married for ten years and has two kids. It is said that prior to her marriage she had an affair with Francis, her neighbour that continued even after her wedding.
The investigation is headed by deputy superintendent of police Girish supported by Panambur Circle Inspector Valentine D’Souza and Bajpe sub-inspector Pramod Kumar.
