Yogi asks officials to ensure units become operational in UP

Lucknow, May 13 (IANS): To ensure employment for the migrant workers who are returning to Uttar Pradesh, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to make sure that industrial units begin working.

While 119 sugar mills are already in operation, the chief minister said that the 12,000 odd brick kilns and 2500 cold storages must also start working.

He said that each brick kiln would ensure employment for 200 workers and a cold storage would give employment to 150 workers.

The chief minister said that bigger industries would ensure employment to over 2.12 lakh workers.

Yogi Adityanath said that Uttar Pradesh had become a safe haven for migrant workers which explained the biggest ever reverse migration in the state. He said over ten lakh migrants had returned to their home in the state after the lockdown.

He said that the government was taking care of their food, medical needs, security and employment.

The chief minister added that under MGNREGA, nearly 23.6 lakh people were getting employment daily while the MSME sector had employed 16.40 lakh workers.
