'Ek chappal de do sahib,' plead migrants as thier feet bleed

Lucknow, May 15 (IANS): "Khana to mil jayega, sahib ek purani chappal de do," said Tiloki Kumar (32) as he showed the boils and cuts on his feet.

Tiloki is one of the thousands who have been walking down to their homes from Gujarat and other states.

Tiloki, a resident of Pipraich in Gorakhpur, said that he worked in a garment unit in Surat and had decided to walk down after he could not get on to the train.

"I got myself registered for the Shramik train and waited for a week. No one called up and finally we decided to walk back home. It is better to die at home than in an unknown place," he said.

He said his slippers had given way even before he entered the borders of Uttar Pradesh.

"I have been walking barefoot and my boils are also bleeding. I still have to walk more than 300 kilometers," he said.

Thakur, another migrant in the group said that while people were offering them food and water along the way, footwear was now posing a major problem.

"The sole of my shoe has come off so I have tied a piece of cloth over it. We can go without food for a day or two but walking is impossible in this condition," he said.

Both, Triloki and Thakur refuse money --"Where will we buy slippers?" they ask.

Seeing the plight of these migrants - and many of them are walking barefoot - a shoe shop owner in Utaratia on the outskirts of Lucknow, had decided to sell chappals at cost price of Rs 60 per pair.

A group of senior citizens who refuse to divulge their names saying we do not want publicity on this issue, have also bought slippers from a local shop and are giving them to migrant workers on the Lucknow-Barabanki road.

Navin Tiwari, a well-known businessman and social activist, has been distributing food and water to migrants on the Lucknow-Faizabad highway. He has now bought slippers in bulk and will be distributing them from Friday.

This situation would have never taken place if PM Modi's BJP government has taken the situation seriously when the first case was reported in January like Kerala that combated the pandemic with well planning. The Modi government went on with flower bed for President Donald Trump, toppled the MP government and kept silent on Delhi riots and gave just four hours notice for the citizen to prepare.
In India month of May is considered to be the hottest month of the year. Our vibrant demography is walking down the highway. The PM Mod's government has repeated the 'great-March' post independence for the million's of informal sector workers.

Congress should seize this golden opportunity by opening up its fat wallet, buy and distribute new chappals or shoes (or lightly used ones), meet these daredeviland mindless walkers at strategic locations with accompanying chorus of supporters.

    Prabhuji,
By chance do you know someone named Akshay Kumar? I remember him fighting with Pakistani soldiers and shouting Jai Hind (only for living) but embracing a Canadian Passport. Bhakths are already blind, you can say anything and they believe, you do not need to try hard.

    @Sanjeev Kamath, Udupi,

According to me David might have followed ten commandments.
    Have you followed

    Luke 8:17
For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
    Matthew 5:14-15
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

So exhibit the truth. In the open.

The government itself cannot support it's own citizens, migrants.
And they are boosting of supporting minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and from Bangladesh.

This is a parody of Indian government.

20 lakh crores will benefit who??? Instead, one crore was given to each Indian government would have spent only 130 crores. Rest could have used for the economy.

Mr. James. Though i support your views , however your math is wrong. India is almost with 138 /139 CR. If govt. credits each individual with INR1.00, the amount would reach 139CR. see the table below.

    INR 1 - 139,00,00,000 CR
    INR10 - 13,90CR
    INR 100 - 139,00CR
    INR 1000 - 1,390,00CR
    INR 10,000 - 13900,00 CR
    INR 1,00,000 -139000,00CR
    INR 10,00,000 -13900,00,00CR
    INR 1,00,00,000 - 13900000,00CR,

Yes, these seven things are an abomination to Lord (Proverbs 6:16-19 NKJV)

    1. A proud look,
    2. A lying tongue,
    3. Hands that shed innocent blood,
    4. A heart that devises wicked plans,
    5. Feet that are swift in running to evil,
    6. A false witness who speaks lies,
    7. And one who sows discord among brethren.

David, please change your attitude and behaviour soon, specially the seventh one because in this pandemic, the last enemy to be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15:26 (NLT)

Good day will come soon (acche din aayega) because our PM and FM are planning to build mansions to all migrant workers, they are too busy to think of present problems.
The uneducated jokers governing this country and the ordinary people are suffering so much that there is no one who can talk to their present problem. If someone raises their plight, they will be ridiculed even in this forum.
These guys go to developed countries at any cost, apply for citizenship of that country at the first possible chance and give lectures about the great developments done by this Jokers' government. These guys are happy that Dollar's value is raising, so that they can send peanuts to India and turn them into gold in India.

Agreed. The NRIs, particularly Gujjus, will always support Modi. They will be happy as long as Rupee is falling!!
If the Dollar is 15 rupees, what you think , Gujju will be able to do his diamond business.
Pay 5 rupees to Africans for raw diamond, then pay 5 Rupees to Indian labour to cut and polish that diamond and spend 2 rupees on transporting them in between and sell it for 3 Rupees profit??
How Gujju will survive if 15 Rupees becomes a Dollar??
