Sonia Gandhi names Mittal, Indora as party Secretaries for MP

New Delhi, May 15 (IANS): Almost two weeks after appointing senior Congress leader Mukul Wasnik as the new in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, party's interim President Sonia Gandhi on Friday appointed C.P. Mittal and Kuldeep Indora as party secretaries and in-charges of the state.

In a statement, Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal said: "Sonia Gandhi has appointed Mittal and Indora as Secretaries and in-charge of Madhya Pradesh affairs."

He also said that Gandhi has relieved Varsha Gaikwad and Harshvardhan Sapkal from the post of AICC Secretaries for the state, while, Sudhanshu Tripathi and Sanjay Kapoor will continue as AICC Secretaries in-charge of Madhya Pradesh affairs.

"The party appreciates the contributions of Gaikwad and Sapkal," Venugopal added.

On April 30, Sonia Gandhi accpeted the resignation of Deepak Babaria as the in-charge of Madhya Pradesh and appointed Wasnik in his place. The Congress, which was in power until March in Madhya Pradesh, lost out to the BJP after its leader Jyotiraditya Scindia quit the party and joined the BJP. A number of MLAs loyal to Scindia also quit party and resigned as legislators, which led to the fall of the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh that was headed by Kamal Nath.
