Udupi, Jan 15: On Thursday January 14, a grand Makara Sankranti festival, being traditionally held in Sri Krishna Mutt here on every Sankranti day, was organized under the guidance of Paryaya Puttige Mutt Swamiji, Sri Sugunendrateertha. Thousands of people had gathered to witness this grand sight and bath in the bliss of the divine grace.
After the night puja, chariots were pulled, after installing the idols of Lord Srikrishna and Mukhyaprana, Sri Ananteshwara and Chandramauleeshwara in them. Four chariots, including the newly inducted ‘Navaratna’ chariot, took part in the festival. Swamijis of Pejawar, Kaniyoor and Bheemanakatte Mutts had also taken part in the festival.
Sources in the Puttige Mutt said that because of the upcoming solar eclipse, the pulling of the chariot as part of ‘Choornotsava’ would be held at 8.30 am on Friday. In the place of the afternoon food, arrangements have been made to serve food to the visiting devotees at 8.30 pm on Friday because of the eclipse. The special feast of Choornotsava will be served on Saturday afternoon, they added.
