UK refuses Dawood aide Hanif Tiger's extradition

London, May 17 (IANS): Britain has reportedly refused India's request to extradite Tiger Hanif, a close aide of India's most-wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim, accused in two cases of bomb blasts in Gujarat.

Top sources in the Home Office revealed that Tiger's extradition was refused by then Home Secretary Sajid Javid, a British politician of Pakistan origin.

Even as Tiger gets relief, Dawood's another close lieutenant Jabir Motiwala, accused of drug financing, is still lodged in British jail and continues to face extradition charges.

While India might request British authorities to find a way to reassess Tiger Hanif's extradition, the refusal by Sajid Javid ostensibly helped the defence lawyers to get Tiger's case discharged by the court.

Tiger Hanif, known as Hanif Mohammed Umerji Patel, was arrested in the UK by the Metropolitan police in February 2010, on a tip-off from Indian agencies.

Also linked with Iqbal Mirchi, Tiger was accused in two cases of terror attacks in Gujarat in 1993. Tiger had conspired to launch a grenade attack in a crowded Surat market in which an eight-year-old girl was killed and several people injured.

In another attack, in a bid to avenge the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, Tiger Hanif was accused of hatching a conspiracy to execute a bomb explosion at the Surat Railway station, injuring over a dozen persons.

The 59-year-old Hanif was traced to a grocery store in Bolton, Greater Manchester, and arrested by the Scotland Yard on an extradition warrant from Indian authorities in 2010.

Tiger lost his appeal in the UK High Court in April 2013, following which the case was handed over to the UK Home Secretary.

However, after years of pondering over the files, the UK Home Secretary in 2018-19, Sajiv Javid, reportedly refused extradition of Tiger Hanif.

Sajid Javid, son of a Pakistani bus driver who migrated to England, has a strong following in British Pakistani community.

Sources said that Tiger Hanif has been close to Dawood Ibrahim and has been working for D-company, known for its underworld activities.

During his stay in Britain, Hanif had also come in contact with late Iqbal Mirchi, another Dawood aide known for narcotics smuggling in Europe. Mirchi was also wanted by the Indian police but his extradition request was rejected by British courts.

Sources said Tiger's lawyers have pleaded with the courts and Home office that in case Tiger is extradited he would be subject to torture in Indian jails.

Another Dawood aide and alleged financier of D-company Jabir Motiwala is also lodged in British jails facing extradition to the United States of America in case of drug financing.

Motiwala is presently on remand at the crowded Wandsworth prison allegedly affected by a coronavirus outbreak. Lawyers of several inmates at this prison have asked the government to release the inmates to save them from the deadly coronavirus.

Jabir Motiwala was arrested in London in August 2018 during a raid at Hilton Hotel on Edgware Road. However, like Tiger, Jabir Motiwala's lawyers have denied all charges against him and said he has never been associated with Dawood Ibrahim.

On the other hand, US authorities have presented strong legal evidence and several video tapes in the courts to prove that Motiwala was deeply involved in drug trafficking activities and finance operations of the D-company, run from Dawood's hideout in Karachi.

If UPA was still ruling Hanif, Dawood and all their aides would have been extradited to India and punished. In 2010 when congress was ruling they alerted UK authorities to arrest Hanif from grocery store and Hanif lost his appeal to stop extradition to India. Then came BJP and could not continue to do what congress had done because of incompetence of BJP so Hanif's appeal was upheld by UK not to extradite him. What can be expected of BJP for others who have recently fled the country with lot of money and settled in UK but this BJP govt is giving us different pictures and reasons for its inability to bring them back to India unless Indian govt gives official written assurance to UK about thier safety and security as per UK law.

FYI, Mallya was BJP's own man who was in BJP ministerial cabinet. You should know better than me how he can avail loan and flee the country with money with full BJP govt protection, security and escort to airport to facilitate his escape with underhand money deal with BJP.

You have to pose this question to BJP as you may not believe in my answer. Better question to ask BJP would be why they are still not bringing those fugitives back after BJP promised and vowed during election time to do it within shortest possible time, alright Munna Beta?????

Isn't it still not obvious to you that UPA is not power hungry like BJP who thinks only of grabbing on to power and win elections by hook or crook or toppling running govt??????.....Whether it is 46 or 0 seats it is immaterial what matters is serving the people even in opposition as dutiful public servants while the ruling is busy with looting, corruption, scams, rape and murder. So far BJP has succeeded in suppressing people's voice and mandate and UPA has been ably responding to people's voice and mandate favourably and it is gathering momentum now FYI.

Sankramana, Do you know who is the initiator of all this dirty game of bombing and genocide?????.... It's BJP who is the aggressor and initiator of demolition of Babri masjid and Godhra riots to kindle this bombing and carniege. None of this would have happened had BJP not ventured into this evil communal conspiracy to start with and none of this kind has happened in 70 years of congress rule too. Even US had denied entry for Modi to the US for his role in Gujrat riots and even now US, UK, EU and gulf countries are against India handling communal based religious issues and thinking of sanctioning India for being equal to China, Pakistan, N. Korea on religious issues.

Get your facts right. Congress never attempted any extradition. All the officers and leaders were in the payroll of these underworld elements. Moreover Cong was worried that if extradited or harmed , their vote bank too would be dented. Hence they preferred to keep quiet.

When you ask me to get my facts right I want to tell you to get your eyes checked out from a good eye specialist. If you can read the news article it is clearly written that in 2010 Hanif was arrested due to a tip off from then Indian govt while he was at the grocery shop and then he lost the appeal in the court against his extradition order. But in 2018-19 when your incompetent govt was in power his extradition order was overturned and he won the case to remain in UK. If this is not then congress govt's attempt to extradite him then you should go back all the way to lower KG class in a Christian missionary school to get properly educated.

First of all you blinds Bhakths have no valid point to argue whatever you have is taught to you by your uneducated, classless, criminal ministers who are master blinds to fake and fabricate stories. So your arguement doesn't carry you far. You are bound to fall in the pit. Blind Morons.

To pull an Israeli style adventure you need someone like late Mrs Gandhi in New Delhi. The current bunch? They're likely to advise to wait until UK skies get cloudy! Hope you've not forgotten the Kandahar fiasco in 1999.
