Detailed lockdown 4.0 guidelines by Monday; Covid-19 tally at 18: Goa CM

Panaji, May 17 (IANS): Goa will issue detailed guidelines for implementation of lockdown 4.0 on Monday evening, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Sunday, adding that Goa's record of active Covid-19 cases was 18 and is likely to increase on account of the increased inbound train passengers from the national capital.

Sawant also ruled out community transmission in the coastal state and added that a fresh strategy was being worked out to tackle the increasing entry of train passengers to Goa, especially from red zones, in wake of the resulting increase in coronavirus cases.

"There are currently 18 active cases in Goa. It can increase by three to four. We are waiting for some confirmatory tests of passengers who have come by train," Sawant said.

Over the last two days, two trains originating from the national capital have brought in 288 (Saturday) and 368 (Sunday) passengers to the state, respectively. All passengers who arrived in Goa on Sunday have been shifted to institutional quarantine and are yet to be tested, Sawant said.

The Chief Minister also stated that the central government had agreed to his request of cancelling the Goa halt of the Rajdhani Express starting from Delhi from next week onwards, in wake of the increase in the number of cases from train passengers.

Nearly half a dozen persons who had arrived from Delhi at Goa's Madgaon railway station on Saturday had tested positive for Covid-19 and all passengers who had shared railway coaches with persons now diagnosed for coronavirus have also been quarantined in government facilities, he said.

"We have to control those coming in by train. Trucks coming in from red zones, the drivers could test positive. We are working out a detailed strategy to efficiently manage the entry of persons coming into Goa. Because as of now we have no community transmission," Sawant said.
