Events like Kambalas used to be a huge thing and very popular amongst the farming community and the village folks in the past, specially in the 1950, 1960 and 1970s. It is good to see the tradition continues even today, though not in the same scale. Manual ploughing of fields by the buffalo and bullock pairs in South Kanara District has almost disappeared, thanks to the continuous decline in the growth of rice. Hence, farmers show less and less interest in breeding the buffalos that were meant to be run at these Kambalas.

Fantastic, reminded of 1940s and 1960s when I ate big buffalo meat at Kathmandu Ram Patrao's home. I could have myself steered them! In 2001 I attended Katpadi Kambala with my sister Honnamma only to be on tv! -
