Section 144 extended in Noida till May 31


New Delhi, May 20 (IANS): The Gautam Buddh Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, which falls in the Red Zone category, on Wednesday extended the prohibitory orders barring the assembly of four or more people, in the district till May 31 in the wake of the nationwide lockdown to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) Section 144 was in force in the district till May 17. However, it was extended on Wednesday keeping in view the number of cases. On Tuesday, the district had reported three new cases.

"Those who flout the norms will be punished under Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," said Gautam Buddh Nagar Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).

As of Tuesday, 289 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the district, including five deaths, while 207 patients have recovered and got discharged from the hospitals, according to official figures.
